Richard E. "Dick" Johnson
Johnson, Richard E. "Dick",87, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015.
He was born July 16, 1928 in Medford, MA, a son of the late Carl E. Johnson and Esther Louise Jacobi Johnson. Dick was an Electrical Engineer with E. I. DuPont de Nemoursfor 40 years after which he retired to the Charleston, SC area. He was a member of Crescent Hill United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Whitman "Whit" Johnson.
Dick was an ardent traveler and had been all over the world. Working at DuPont took him to Northern Ireland, Armenia and China as well as half a dozen states in the U.S. His volunteerism with Water Missions saw him in Aceh, Indonesia and Haiti among other places.
He was also an enthusiastic (if not always good!) tennis player, golfer, snow skier and ardent jogger. He ran his last Derby mini-marathon at age 60 but continued running well into his 80's.
Dick is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Blanche "Bunny" Johnson; three children, Terrie Johnson, Mark S. (Ann) Johnson and Tracy Johnson Richardson (Jim) and three grandchildren, Emily, Hannah and Jamie Richardson.
There will be no visitation or services at this time. Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, "In St. Matthews" was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
