Melvin J. Day, 92, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at his home in Lanesville.

He was born July 19, 1923 in Lanesville the son of Oscar and Anna Fachinger Day.

He was retired from the Courier Journal in Louisville where he worked in maintenance and was an Army veteran of WWII. He was an Army Ranger and participated in the Liberation of the Phillipines. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lanesville, Indiana. He enjoyed gardening, working jigsaw puzzles, wine making and watching and feeding the birds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-Robert Day and a sister Mildred Himmelhaver.

Anne Harbeson (Lynn) of Lanesville, Indiana
Joan Robinson (Patrick) of Corydon, Indiana
Maria Day of Lanesville, Indiana

One Sister- Rosemary Schueler of New Albany, Indiana
Thirteen Grandchildren and Fifteen Great Grandchildren

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lanesville, Indiana. Father Denis Quinkert and Father Bob St. Martin will be the celebrants.
Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 8 PM Tuesday, February 16, 2016 and on Wednesday from 9 AM to 10:30 AM at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts be made to Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
